Architect Kurt Lavenson is the founder and principal in charge of Lavenson Design. He is licensed in multiple states and works throughout the U.S. He relocated from Philadelphia to San Francisco in the early 1980’s then worked in the building trades while studying architecture and photography at UC Berkeley. After being a design-build general contractor for 15 years, performing all aspects of design and construction from the ground up, he shifted focus to architecture, writing and teaching. Since 1985, Kurt has been acknowledged by peers and the press for award-winning design work and insight that are both creative and strategic.
Lavenson Design is focused on residential architecture, delivering beautiful buildings and spaces that respond to the essence of a place and the needs of our clients. Our projects are a combination of remodeling and new construction. We balance editing and invention, seeking transformative results that transcend style or fashion and stand the test of time. We help owners solve problems, express themselves creatively and secure building approvals in their communities.
We work with clients and colleagues who value enduring results, attention to detail and perceptive communication. We are grateful for the trust placed in us by many repeat clients and for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow designers, contractors and artisans.
