Classic Estate Remodel in Orinda, CA     page 1

A classic 1930’s estate in the suburbs outside of San Francisco was in need of repairs and updating to revive its gracious, storied past. This provided an opportunity to add new architectural directives while strengthening the inherent qualities of the house. The property, which had been the home of newspaper publisher Dean Lesher and his wife Margaret, was remodeled to edit and merge the best parts of its history with the needs of current lifestyles and technology.

Addition
During the repairs a new addition was woven seamlessly into the old structure, to expand the kitchen and a bedroom balcony above.

Kitchen

The remodeled kitchen is an interpretation of the European Country House style, with a sense of cabinetry and furniture that was collected over time. Antiques combine with modern equipment. Mahogany and soapstone blend with layered, artistic finishes to create a distinguished and soulful patina.

New interior arches and exterior windows refer back to the original style of the house and enliven the restored spaces.

The red island at the center of the kitchen is now truly the heart of this home
