In
the master bath, the tumbled and honed marble is warmed with radiant
heating. One large slab of glass divides the shower from the dry areas of
the room.
The jetted tub is in a window bay that
looks out over the pool below and the rolling hills beyond. When the view
is obscured, bathers can enjoy the painted mural on the walls and ceiling.
A guest bathroom was reconfigured to have
two new identities. It now serves the adjacent bedrooms with a mahogany
and marble vanity while serving the outdoor pool and tennis areas with a
more casual stone clad shower room. A sandblasted glass door to the
exterior links the bath with the outdoor areas. A mahogany pocket door at
the interior separates the 'two' bathrooms.
Materials
in the guest bath were chosen for their rustic yet classic qualities. The
ceramic wash basin sits on a hewn slab of limestone that is tiled into the
tumbled marble wainscot.
A
bedroom adjacent to the guest bath was converted to a home office using
custom built mahogany cabinets and furniture. The resulting suite harks
back to the traditional 'study' where one might retire for several hours
of reflection or research.
