| A
Formal Kitchen in Oakland, CA |
 |
This
was a remodel of the kitchen in a1930's home in the Oakland Hills.
The microwave oven was placed low, at the
end of the peninsula, so that the children could access it easily. The
cabinetry is lacquered and the countertops are granite. |
 |
French
doors link the kitchen to an exterior dining patio for summer meals.
Interior floors were replaced with oak
strip flooring to match adjacent dining and living areas. The kitchen was
intended to be as formal as the adjacent living areas. |
 |
New
electrical and plumbing work were cut into the existing shell of the room.
The celebratory temple built around the cooktop contains the hood ducting
and also masks an exiting plumbing stack from a bathroom upstairs. |
| This
kitchen was featured in Professional Builder & Remodeler Magazine,
February 1991. |
