Basement Addition & Decks in Mill Valley |
|
 |
The angled lines and metal
roof of this hillside home were the design cues for a series of stainless
steel rails and hardwood decks.
To add living space within a
strictly controlled design review envelope, the hillside was excavated from
underneath the house so that a 10 foot high 'walk-out' basement could be
inserted below.

Large commercial aluminum windows & doors bring
the view and light deep into the new basement. The deck is notched away for
a view to the sky from the downstairs gym |

A new walnut stair descends to
the colored concrete of the lower level. A medallion of river stones
is arranged at the intersection of the circulation paths. After a
reverential pause, you are drawn to the mahogany wine cellar through a
rubbed stainless steel door. |

Blue concrete with abalone, polished blue plaster, glass mosaic splash wall and and a limestone shower.....with
a pebble floor...a soulful palette that defies easy categorization and whose
beauty will endure.... |
