Bath Remodel in Alameda |
 |
An existing second floor bath
was enlarged and transformed by extending a barrel vault into the attic,
adding a large skylight and
removing a chimney that intruded on the floor plan.
Light pours down from above
and reflects off the mirror and shower. Carefully arranged limestone expands the
space visually and lends solidity. Mahogany, sandblasted glass and
stainless steel fittings compose the cabinets, which were designed to maximize storage space within and
open space without. |

before...and during |
|
The existing bathroom felt too
small, but there was no room within the upstairs floor plan to move the
walls. It needed more light, but design review discouraged changing the
window. The owners wanted more storage but they disliked how many cabinets
were already in the space....All of these constraints were resolved, plus
the adjacent bedroom was reconfigured to create a master with a dedicated
half bath. The new design blends modern simplicity with traditional
complexity. |

A wainscotted half bath was added to fill out
the new master bedroom. Blasted glass doors allow light from the existing
window to reach into the bedroom. |
