Barrel Vault Bathroom

Raising The Ceiling To Bathe In Light

In this Alameda, CA home from the early 1900’s, a top floor bathroom was reconfigured to add height and bring in the sun, as well as delight, for the daily rituals of bathing. The existing window had to remain, due to strict design review codes. Everything else was changed. Limestone, mahogany and glass were combined to create a timeless and elegant bathroom for the new century. Cabinetry and sinks were inspired by nautical design, since this home is located in a neighborhood historically favored by local sea captains. A new half bath was arranged back to back with the larger bathroom, to create an en suite master bedroom setup.

From the Owners: ”We have worked with Kurt since 1995 and used his services on three residential remodel projects. He has a keen artistic sense and a superb eye for detail, which he translates into beautiful, functional designs. Kurt’s personal touch and sensitivity to our needs, including budget, is always present.”
