Lafayette Car Barn (unbuilt)
New Accessory Structures
This project in Lafayette, CA was decidedly a man space. It was a series of studies for a building, or buildings, devoted entirely to a car collection, wine making, and car collector parties. It would also contain a home office. Early ideas for a group of small agricultural buildings gave way to schemes for a larger ‘barn’ that would contain everything and maintain connections to the hillside pool. An upper story office overlooks the shop and is surrounded by curtain wall glazing and a large roof covered in solar photovoltaic panels. The transparency of the upper story window walls in the final iteration contrasts nicely with the solid lower level auto and agricultural spaces.
