A
previous owner had enclosed the garage to make a dark storage area and
dining room inside the house. This project focused on cutting doors and
windows through to the outside to make connections with the gardens.
Indian Raja slate floors unify the rooms and further connect them to the colors
and textures of the landscape.
Half
walls, a central column and built-in cabinets serve to delineate the space
without enclosing the rooms. The new entry and family room flow into the
kitchen and existing living room. The front door was relocated to the new
entry from its former location in the living room wall. This places the
door at the end of the long porch and
adds importance to the sequence of arrival.
